Sequels are now common in Punjabi Films as based on success of first movie and hype around it, makers are assured of good opening at BoxOffice.
Last week it was Deep Sidhu starrer Jora – The Second chapter and this week we have Rythm Boyz production, Janjot singh directed sequel of 2019 released hit movie, Chal Mera Putt 2.
Chal Mera Putt Franchise is collaboration of Punjabi artists from Pakistan and India. Spontaneity and sync between artists are commendable. Sequentially one punch is followed by another punch taking comical sequence to another level followed by eliciting screenplay done by Rakesh Dhawan who has also written story of this film.
Story continues from where it was left in first installment with flashbacks setting stage for second installment(although logically you would be wondering ke eh ta saare pakke ho gaye c last scene ch, but never mind). Lead cast includes Indian artists Amrinder Gill, Simi Chahal, Gurshabad and Hardeep Gill along with Pakistani aritsts Iftikhar Thakur, Nasir Chinyoti, Akram Udas. New additions in this installment are Garry Sandhu, Nirmal Rishi and Zafri Khan, Ruby Anum.

Film has mostly indoor scenes and revolves around relatable story and challenges of illegal Immigrants based in UK. Film attempts to highlight life and circumstances of Punjabi Illegal immigrants and touches emotions at right intervals in-turn passing social message. Amrinder Gill finally delivers monologue which deserve whistle 🙂 vatt kad te.

Gurshabad is actor to look out for and would like to see him more versatile role, Simi Chahal had more screen space in first installment and people really liked her chemistry with Amrinder Gill. Garry Sandhu, although minuscule but had good riveted role, delight to see him on silver screen after long time. Nevertheless tip of iceberg was amalgamate of different artists and their exceptional dialogues/punches. Ruby Anum had her own space and surprised with the way she delivered strong punches with ease.
It becomes difficult to handle such talented artists on same frame which we believe director of film, Janjot singh did commendable job. Some of scenes for sure would be watched on repeat. Overall this is well executed project, not to be compared with first installment.
Movie is shot extensively in Birmingham and surrounding areas, scenes are beautifully captured given movie has lot of indoor and night shoots. To ensure authenticity, Pakistani sequence is shot in Pakistan itself (Walled city, Lahore) which helped to capture real essence. Editing is crisp, although we felt maybe couple of scenes/sequence could be dropped as post interval things started happening rapidly. Movie features two promotional songs “Majhe Wal da” and “Boota Gallan Kad Da Ae”.
Chal Mera Putt 2 is much needed comical break in 2020, carries on with same charm and en-amour as its first installment only to be multiplied with new additions.
